What inspired you to study law?

I chose law because it brings together ideas, language, justice and human experience. My early career gave me close insight into the courts and the discipline of legal reasoning. I have since worked as an advocate, litigator, principal solicitor, partner, corporate counsel and national legal leader.

Across these roles, I have valued protecting the interests of others and helping people make sound decisions at important moments.

The law requires disciplined thought, precise language and moral courage – and offers the opportunity to stand beside people as they confront difficult problems.

What makes a good lawyer?

A good lawyer combines knowledge and experience with independent judgement and candid advice.

Technical ability must be supported by wisdom, empathy and commercial understanding. A lawyer should identify the decisive issue, explain it clearly and turn legal analysis into practical strategy.

Litigation is not an end in itself. Protecting the client’s interest may require determined advocacy in court or careful negotiation toward commercially sensible resolution.

Above all, a good lawyer treats every client with careful attention, intellectual honesty and respect.

What do clients say about you?

Our clients and colleagues value Peter’s insight, judgement and command of complex factual and legal material.  They appreciate his clear communication, integrity and persistent focus on protecting their interests.
